Re: LBB much slower than LB in this pgm

Why does you I7 laptop perform correctly ,,, is it windows or a driver that is doing the capping? I believe the capping is the driver's reaction to detecting a fake chip. I assume I don't see any capping since my adapter has a genuine Prolific device. I can't think of any other reason why speed cap...

Re: LBB much slower than LB in this pgm

19200 baud still get 220088 ms 220+ seconds this makes little since to me...... On the contrary it makes perfect sense if you assume my theory is correct: that the speed is being deliberately capped to 1000 characters per second. If that's true all rates up to and including 9600 baud will run at th...

I think AMD / windows drivers may be issue....
Probably, but I still wonder why a driver would impose a speed cap of 1000 characters-per-second, a suspiciously 'round' number. It seems to be deliberate rather than an 'accident'.

Re: LBB much slower than LB in this pgm

what adapter are you using. ???? The same one I used on the laptop: Prolific Rev. D chipset, identical to this . At £20 this is quite a lot more expensive than some of the fakes/clones, although cost is no guarantee of quality. The seller emphasises that it is genuine. The Prolific website contains...

Re: LBB much slower than LB in this pgm

yea give it a shot . My Windows 10 / Intel Core i7 desktop gave the same result as the laptop, near enough. Unfortunately the program won't work at all on my AMD PC because that's running Windows 7 and it won't accept 115200 as a valid baud rate. Have you tried different baud rates to see if the pr...

Re: LBB much slower than LB in this pgm

! is generic FTDI other is CP210x I just got a while back. Clones ???? Some more information here . I could try my program on other PCs (including one with an AMD CPU) if you want, but I only have genuine USB-serial adaptors (some of my applications need functionality like hardware flow-control so ...

Re: LBB much slower than LB in this pgm

are you running w10? Yes, Windows 10, fully updated. PC is a Dell XPS-13 laptop with an Intel Core i7 CPU. are you forcing hi priority No, just running LBB out of the box. Serial I/O is so slow that it probably wouldn't make a significant difference anyway. Are you sure you're not using one of the ...

Re: LBB much slower than LB in this pgm

I use this for LBB open "com12:115200,n,8,1" for random as #serial I ran this program as a 'sanity check' (using a Prolific USB-to-serial adaptor, but not connected to anything): open "com3:115200,n,8,1" for random as #serial start = time$("ms") for n = 1 to 10000 print #serial, "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQR...

Re: LBB much slower than LB in this pgm

I have no clue why this pgm runs 30 seconds slower on LBB than LB. LBB simply calls the standard Windows API functions for accessing the serial port, so the time taken should depend only on the baud rate and the number of characters sent. At 115200 baud each character takes about 87 microseconds to...

Re: LBB much slower than LB in this pgm

Other sugestions? I suggested that you used Run.. Profile Program (Ctrl+F5) but you have not reported on the results or listed them here. The whole point of a profiler is to tell you where in a program the time is being spent, so if the program is running more slowly than you expect it should tell ...
