The UK's Online Safety Act, which came into effect earlier this year, covers forums as well as other online services like social media platforms. Unfortunately the requirements on forums are impossible for a small one- or two-man-administered forum to comply with.
Some forum owners have opted to close their forums to avoid any problems (the penalties can involve a fine up to £18 million!) others are taking the risk of doing nothing, on the basis that their forums are highly unlikely to host any content which is harmful or is otherwise not permitted by the legislation.
At the moment I am following the second course as regards this forum, but it is something that I need to keep under review. What is the official Liberty BASIC forum doing in this regard? Are they trying to bypass the issue by claiming that they don't have any links with the UK?
